Times when hearing “oops!” makes your heart skip a beat:
1. in your hairdresser’s chair during a cut or color appointment
2. staring at the dentist’s ceiling, mouth propped open, two hands poking around in there with sharp metal instruments
3. after three hours of work on a holiday meal, especially if the “oops” comes from someone removing a turkey from the oven
4. at any point during a gynecological exam
5. when someone’s ironing your last clean dress shirt with only 20 minutes left to get ready
6. as you see your spouse check the gas gauge after you’ve passed the last interstate exit for miles
7. after the nurse has given you an injection
8. during wedding dress alterations
9. while tech support works to recover critical lost documents from your computer
10. just as you’re going under anesthesia
ps – BrightSide just named two more off the top of his head. Got a good oops moment? Add it in the comments!
My “favorite” was when I worked hard with computers:
-when you hear it, followed by bad machine noises or darkness.

Yikes. That loud whirring noise my old one sometimes made right before it got really hot was never a good moment for me. 🙂

That would be the fan going out. If you replace the $30 fan (not too hard), the computer might last for years.

Wonderful, frightening post! Closely aligned to the “oops” is ” oh oh” that strikes terror into my heart.

I once got my hair cut by a student. Partway through the haircut, the instructor came up behind me and said, “Oh, you can’t do that.” Whatever “that” was, it was at the back of my head and I never did find out what it was because the instructor took over.
Oops.

Wow! Okay, you’re the first person I’ve heard tell that story firsthand…I can’t even imagine! Thanks for visiting. 🙂

The final haircut was–well, no worse than usual. It was decades before I found a haircut that worked on me, but that’s a whole ‘nother story.

I think that’s true for a lot of us! (My hair was never really easy…)

I can relate to that third one. I do most of the cooking and after slaving over a hard meal you NEVER want to hear “oops!” Great list! -OM
