Is anyone else out there permanently scarred by The Silence of the Lambs?
I’m talking deeply, irrevocably, intensely traumatized by a movie I saw 27 years ago. Twenty-seven years! I mean, come on. It was a movie, for Pete’s sake. Pretend story telling on a big screen with loud music and popcorn.
Although now that I think about it, that was one of the handful of times I lost my appetite mid-movie. And given the delight that is movie popcorn…well, anything that keeps me from eating buttery deliciousness is startling to say the least.
If you’re one of the lucky few who haven’t experienced this movie I envy you. Greatly. You might just want to click “like” now and move along before letting any of these details slip behind your eyelids and lodge in your brain. If you, too, are traumatized by this movie – seriously, go with God. You don’t want to go back down this rabbit hole with me.
As for the rest of you…
“It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.” Just…ewwww. [shudder]
“I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.” Wait, what? [shudder]
“Well, Clarice – have the lambs stopped screaming?” Man, I had nightmares about screaming lambs for weeks.
“Now it places the lotion in the basket…it places the lotion in the basket…put the fucking lotion in the basket!” The man. The girl. The man and the girl. Just – oh.
“Hello Clarice…” [shudder shudder shudder]
The Silence of the Lambs is one of those movies I will never, ever, ever watch again. I’d rather leave my own home for a three hour walk than relive that utterly terrifying experience. Come to think of it, I’d do that walk naked and barefoot in the rain. Because for real, the entire thing – start to finish – was scary as hell.
Linda’s stream of consciousness prompt runs our Saturday fun. This week’s prompt is “organ. Talk about an organ or base your post on the theme of them…or one.”

Magnificent film. Yep. Stays with you. *nods*

Having never seen the movie, I skimmed over this real fast. My imagination is so vivid, I could have nightmares just based on what I’ve heard about it, that is if I stopped and thought about it. Must think of butterflies and daisy meadows under blue skies with white clouds!

I cannot advise against seeing this one strongly enough. No joke, it will lodge in your brain for-e-ver.
I’m really enjoying the butterflies imagery, though!

🙂 Thank you for reassuring me. I had wondered it I was missing something important.

I saw that movie, oh those many years ago, have not forgotten it, perhaps will never forget it, and will never ever watch it again. Yes, the acting was great, but once is enough.

Definitely a one & done experience.

“SoL” was definitely a creepy movie. Not the kind of thing I seek out when I look to be entertained, that’s for certain. Maybe it’s just my sense of humor that has allowed me to escape the heebie-jeebies the movie causes, but I can understand how it must make you feel.

Almost 30 years later & those dang heebie-jeebies are still there!

Yes, that was a rather intense movie. But so well acted and the story was so well told. I really liked it and have watched it several times since its original release. But you know, different strokes for different folks.

It was incredibly well written and yes, the actors were amazing. It’s always the best made movies that can scare the bejesus out of me!

Great movie! Loved it. The dialogue was instant classic that can get quoted and quoted over and over at every opportunity.

It’s for sure unforgettable. Does that mean you saw Red Dragon, too? newepicauthor liked that one better.

It didn’t seem as creepy as Silence of the Lambs.

OMG Laura! I went down the rabbit hole with you again. Why? oh why? That movie scared the beejezus out of me. I too had nightmares. Damn you Anthony Hopkins! What scared me the most and does to this day is that depravity like this exists. Not just in movies. Real life serial killers. Movie was very loosely based on Ed Gein. Anyhoo. I’d say thanks for sharing but not. And the truth is I would also rather go walking naked in the rain.

Oh no, I’m so sorry! The pain!! It’s real!! (The real life thing is why I had to stop watching Criminal Minds. Sheesh!)

I still watch Criminal Minds. With hands over my eyes but still. Something about the darkness draws me in. Maybe I like being scared? Maybe because it is the opposite of what I experience in my real life? Who knows?

You’re braver than I am. It kept giving me those awful chase nightmares where somebody’s chasing me down the dark street & it felt like I was about to die. Ugh!

definitely not worth it to watch then

My ex-husband, his dad and uncle hunted on Ed Gein’s property before the discovery was made. They had no idea…

YIKES. That’s a whole new level of creep factor.

There is actually more to the story. Years later, when the ex worked at one of the state prisons, Mr. Gein was an inmate there and he recognized and remembered the ex by name. Now THAT’s creepy.
