What’s the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery or came into a huge fortune?
This answer changes based on the season; today I vote to change lives in our area. I’d pay off every child’s lunch account and load their card balance for the rest of the school year. I’d reestablish our local food bank then set up a trust fund to ensure it doesn’t go under again, and I’d include a mobile component so food can reach those who can’t get to the physical location. I’d hire an architect to design a beautiful, functional, state-of-the-art building for families and make it available for sliding scale rent to people who are home insecure. Last, I’d search out the folks who tried and failed to move into a house – due to loan issues, job concerns, unforeseeable emergencies, whatever – and see that they get into the right home.
I dream big.
Which decade do you think had the best sense of style?
Maybe the 2000s? Probably because I think of that as the age of jeans and a t-shirt, and y’all know how I feel about perfectly broken in jeans with a downy soft tee.
Would you rather be half your height or double your weight?
I suppose I’d rather be double my weight. Being less than three feet tall would require serious lifestyle adjustments.
If you wanted to get away from everyone totally, where would you hide?
We live in a pretty small town so even if I hide at a back table at Panera the chances are good I’ll run into somebody. If I really truly TRULY wanted to get away from everyone – totally – my best bet is heading out. Out into the woods, into a park, onto a walking trail with the dogs. My basement couch is awfully comfy, too, but the kids tend to find me eventually if I say in the house.
What do you do that you love? ❤
I love to write, sing, snuggle my animals, and even (yes, it’s true) cook. Will wonders never cease.

I love that you’d seek to provide so much safety and security to your community. The peace washes over me just thinking about it. You’re not taking a thing for granted. I love that.

I love yah first answer. I wish it wasn’t such a big dream. We live in an age where it shouldn’t be.

It really shouldn’t. When you look at how few people control the vast majority of resources it’s a little shocking.

It’s so shocking that a lot of people don’t believe the statistics about how bad the disparity is.

I loved your spending plan. I’m wondering with all the available genius in the world why we can’t figure the food and water thing?

I have no idea!! People with net worths in the BILLIONS – I mean, I know it’s their money, but how much do you really need? You’re telling me some of those folks can’t circle up to fix some stuff?

I know right. Hell, I would do it for the write off. (If I had a billion that is)

Your answer to the first question shows what a good, kind person you are. My answer will be less generous.

That’s a kind thing to say, Carol, but short of burning it 😉 I don’t think there’s a wrong answer to #1. Honestly, I consider myself extremely blessed to have a home we love and more than enough food in the fridge. I try to pass that on to my kids but I don’t know — they didn’t see us in my manic coupon clipping, sales only, no we can’t get takeout that’s way too expensive stage. I guess they’ll figure it out when they’re poor college students?

At some point they’ll figure it out, because that’s part of life I think.

True. Now if I can just keep the credit card vultures away from them in college with those No Fee offers…

Good luck with that.

Thanks for Sharing Your Generous World Laura! Your dreams are great, now if only, huh? A 440 lbs Jim? 😐 O my. I’m fatter than Jim…. double 😐 Wow. Um…

That half or double question was hard! Both heavy people and little people have such a tough time in our society — neither would be a simple change. Great questions this week!

Yep, I’d be rolling in just under 300 so not my best look. 😆

I love the kids school account idea. That would be the best thing ever.

Right?! We’ve had some crazy stories hit the news this year. Schools in the spring that cut off free lunch for anyone with a balance (one might have still offered bread with jelly). There was one that called social services if parents didn’t pay off their account, so the kids were at risk for being removed from the home!

That’s awful. We should be better than this.

Thanks, Sadje. Lots of problems are so much worse because people are food or home insecure. If we could just make progress on these two things…

I know. It’s a problem that can be taken care of easily.
