It’s been a really, really long time since we’ve done it but ordering Chinese food used to be such a treat. Putting aside the yummy goodness inside the white containers they came in were so much fun.

At the risk of sounding weird (but seriously, when do I not) seeing a counter full of Chinese takeout containers was a little like Christmas morning. Those little white boxes with the tops folded in on themselves and a wire carry handle. We’d pop open tops, separating out the sticky white rice containers from the saucy dishes. Everybody had their own special order – sweet and sour chicken, Szechuan Beef, veggie fried rice, beef with broccoli – something they’d ordered just for themselves. Then the challenge of who was willing to share what kicked in.

Dinner would come and go but then there was the challenge of sneaking your sticky rice container into a hidden fridge space. Leftover Chinese was a treat but sticky rice put it over the top so we guarded those things like hidden treasure.

Well, this SoCS trended hard toward food and now I’m craving Chinese. Ugh.

Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “container.” Use the word “container” any way you’d like. Or think about a container of some kind and write about it. Enjoy!
