I’m seeing this doctor. His specialties are in sports medicine and family medicine but he’s one of those superheroes in a white coat kind of people. The kind I trust with everything from actual injuries to that weird pain I just can’t get rid of with my Google Dr.™ skill set. Currently he does my adjustments to help with back pain because 53 is an absolute dream, let me tell ya.
Since he’s a holistic doctor every single time he comes in the room he’ll sit down, look me dead in the eye, and ask “so how are you?” Except it’s not one of those “list your symptoms please” questions, he’s actually asking. I’ve dropped everything from “I’m really stressed about the holidays” to “Senior year college search is about to take me out” and he takes it all in. This last visit I said “I’m just feeling so [insert random explosion gestures near my heart]. Everything is SO MUCH right now but like, what are you gonna do, right?” And he said, “Vote” which is one more reason I love this guy.
He always asks what am I doing for myself which often elicits a ladylike snort so we talk about how important it is to take care of me. This last visit he found my weak spot. He asked the question, I kind of blanked out, and he said doing something fun was my homework. Just for good measure he wrote “Remember to do your homework” on my visit notes.
So like any good teacher in a past life I’m working on the assignment. Having lunch with my sister today is my biggest fun thing but I thought maybe I’d revisit the blog. Turns out it’s a little like visiting a long lost friend.
Good to see you back again 😊. At 59 the back is not so sure about yoga anymore, I wonder if you can buy a new one.

I’m trying so hard to keep my back in check. I hear back surgery is a tough recovery. 😳

Good to hear from you again! I’m glad you are doing okay and have found a Dr. who is understanding. Hope you didn’t get much damage from the hurricanes, and knock wood there won’t be any more this year. 🙂

So good to see you! It’s been quite a fall… It feels wrong to say we were lucky with hurricanes when I’m seeing the devastation western NC is still trying to maneuver. Where we are it was more storm damage than anything.

I’ve missed you and have been hoping it wasn’t anything really bad. Back pain and stress are bad, but not instantly lethal, so I’m happy to hear you’re taking care of yourself. And maybe, as part of your homework, you need to talk with yourself about how much the things stressing you are YOUR responsibility – maybe you could shuffle some of it off onto the other people in your household? And then do something fun for yourself too.

This is all excellent advice, Carol. I for sure could do a hard look at how much extra stress I voluntarily take on. I appreciate you!
