I am not entertaining speculation about what on earth Musk might possibly have meant by that very spirited upward and outward hand gesture. His special brand of weirdness does not make that salute mean anything else. It is what it is, period, and he decided to do it on a worldwide stage.

People are complaining that the gesture was taken out of context or that the clip was cut off. Agree to disagree on that but here’s what I’ll offer you.

YOU throw out a fascist salute. Do it at your coffee club or the kids’ neighborhood game. Do it at church or waiting in the grocery store. Bonus points if you’re on a stage in front of a large audience. But no worries – you have plenty of time to add context around that moment when you heil hitler your hand in the air.
