1. 40 things? Whoop whoop.
2. I can tell I’m tired because 40 sounds like sooooo much.
3. We can do hard things.
4. Let’s start with something lighthearted, shall we?
5. Time for Google search conversations.
6. Google 1: Can hippos jump?
7. They don’t so much jump as sometimes get airborne when moving quickly over land.
8. Side note: While cartoons paint hippos as fat, jolly animals they’re actually aggressive and dangerous.
9. Seems like an important animal fact to know.
10. Google 2: Substitutions for fennel seed?
11. Anise, cumin, celery, parsley, onion, and dill among others.
12. Google 3: Salmon is done at…?
13. 145 degrees.
14. Google 4: Sedation dentistry.
15. A fascinating concept for someone like me who LOATHES dental procedures.
16. Google searches ✔️. Moving on.
17. I’ve discovered a pasta sauce recipe that makes my eyes roll back in my head.
18. Even gluten free pasta can’t kill this vibe.
19. This easy garlic bread is icing on the cake.
20. Yeah, we’re using comfort food to soothe the soul, what about it?
21. Are you looking for accessible advocacy?
22. Check out an app called 5 Calls.
23. Go in and look at current issues.
24. Choose what’s important to you and read about the bill being voted on or action requested.
25. The app will connect you to your representatives so you can make your voice heard.
26. Nervous about calling? There’s a script available to make contacting your representative less stressful.
27. This is quick, purposeful action you can take no matter where you are.
28. Spend 5 minutes, make 5 calls. Give it a try.
29. Speaking of advocacy today is an Economic Blackout day.
30. Abstain from making purchases, in store or online, particularly from big retailers or box stores.
31. If you must deal with an emergency or purchase essentials please support a local small business.
32. Some people have said this is meaningless, that one day won’t make a difference to those companies.
33. I’d argue the point is bigger than that.
34. For one, it will give companies an idea of our collective financial power and how it could affect them.
35. But perhaps more importantly, it’s a first step.
36. The Montgomery bus boycott began as a one day event.
37. That protest continued over a year and eventually led to a Supreme Court decision declaring segregated buses unconstitutional.
38. So don’t blow off a one day event as meaningless.
39. Every day showing collective action alters public perception. It also flexes muscles necessary to extended protest.
40. So, in summary: call your representatives, don’t buy stuff today, and don’t try hugging a hippo.
To be fair to my new dentist, she is that quick and gentle, I can do without the numbing of the gums now.

I think this is a relatively new service for our practice. Now I just need to figure out how serious the work has to be for me to try this.
