The shock and awe of it all is making my head spin. I know that’s the point. I know getting caught up in a maelstrom of madness is quite literally the point since getting disoriented makes it easier to get distracted.
I think having our touchstone relationships will be what gets us through. We’ll take turns spinning out gently spinning in circles as needed so that someone is always available to reach out, firmly grasp our shoulder, and remind us what matters.
Rest. Rage. Resistance. Times to get going on those three Rs.
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “awe/aww.” Use one, use both, use ’em any way you’d like. Bonus points if you fit them both into your post. Enjoy!

Rest, rage, and resist! I agree, but sometimes it gets very very hard to resist the futility. I read a good article in The Atlantic this morning – what is happening now is Patrimonialism according to a book written by Stephen E. Hanson and Jeffrey S. Kopstein, The Assault on the State: How the Global Attack on Modern Government Endangers our Future. “Patrimonialism is a form of governing, based on individual loyalty and connections, and on rewarding friends and punishing enemies (real or perceived), it can be found not just in states but also among tribes, street gangs, and criminal organizations.”
Sadness.

Patrimonialism is a new term for me and sure looks like an accurate description of what’s happening here. I understand the pull of futility — it’s just so overwhelming. I think that’s where the rest part comes in. Take the time to recharge then find ways to rejoin the fight.

You have to hope there will be someone to grab you and stop the spinning! Unfortunately, in this digital age, it is harder to find.

It is. I think we have to be intentional to cultivate in person support systems. Those will surely be critical in the days ahead.

Rest. Rage. Resist. I love this! I have been doing all three to the best of my ability. I hang onto friends and family for support and that will be the key to survival.

My friends and family are doing some heavy lifting when it comes to supporting me. I’m so grateful you have that as well.
