A book, a jar, a mind, a debate. There’s a season opener, a can opener, a letter opener too. Sometimes it’s a lid that just won’t give until you run it under hot water and give it a solid thunk on the floor.

So many things that open.

Sometimes things that open are such a big deal they get fancy lights and a GRAND OPENING banner. Sometimes it’s the quietest little trickle you only find if you know what you’re looking for. Most of the time it’s something in between.

At the risk of sounding reductive — this could, after all, be a grand sweeping piece about the beauty of opening minds — I’ll say the most satisfying opening has to be the women’s bathroom door when you’ve had two drinks too many and there’s a line out the door.

I said what I said.

Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “something that opens.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!
