I got a covid vaccine on Tuesday and feel like absolute trash. Gunky gunk. Yuckiness. Blech-ville. So much of the bad.
There are few things quite as infuriating as needing to do something I know will make me feel crappy to try to protect myself from getting grossly ill. Moderately ill has happened — covid is no fun but I’m convinced being vaccinated has kept me out of the sort of trouble that lands you in the hospital. Still, this feels gross.
I’m hopeful I’ll wake up on Thursday feeling oh-so-much better…it’s just hard to see from here. Let’s all hope for the best.
with the vaccine, it depends on which one I get, but with one I always get the reaction you do.

You know, the Moderna one gave me heart problems that almost convinced me to go to the ER. Pfizer has been better — I get sick, yes, but no heart issues and I call that a win.

I have the same reaction. It is like a hangover without the fun or regrets. 😀

Today I get my RSV Vaccine – flu and Covid to follow in September. Usually my only response is a sore arm – hugs to you in your discomfort.

Thanks, Carol. Here’s hoping your sore arm is fleeting. 💛

Ps: If it’s any consolation, I react “wrong” to lots of stuff…. zero reaction to vicodin, but when the knee surgery anethstetist said some people have bad reactions to a pain block, I knew I’d be one. Sure enough, the block is supposed to wear off after 12 hours, but that’s when it kicked in on me… and lasted 7 days. I was sent home in an ambulance because I couldn’t walk up the 3 steps to my house.

Just…wow. This is the first pain block story like this I’ve heard and it’s a doozy. I’m so sorry! It actually does make me feel less weird, though, so thank you for sharing.

From what I read, the pain block lasting so long is relatively rare but common enough that no one but me was concerned. On the bright side…no pain for 7 days!!

Ahhh yes, I’ve been trying to figure out the best time to get my normal vaxes (flu & covid) so that they ‘last’ over the usual worse parts of the ‘season’. Late September/early October is my usual date of preference. I asked the pharmacist if they’d still be available (crazy times we live in) and was reassured they’d be available for me then. Your post reminded me about planning for the ‘icks’ as the covid one does that to me, too. Sorry about your ‘icks’ right now 😦
Take it easy – but thank you for the reminder!

You are very welcome. I typically do Sept/Oct (especially for flu so it lasts thru Jan/Feb) but we have several things planned for September that will put me in large crowds. More than usual, really, and it made me nervous.
My husband watched me make these appointments once and asked me what on earth I was doing. I was scrolling back and forth through my calendar to look for a relatively open 3 day period for feeling gross. 😂🤣

Believe me, I get that!

I’ve never had that vaccine so I don’t know its negative effects, but remember that by His stripes we were healed so command your body to recover.

I appreciate your thoughts, Frank, but this one is consistent for me. I have active symptoms for three days then it clears, there is no commanding otherwise. Same with the flu shot but the protection is worth the inconvenience.

Thank you, Sadje. Some of the worst symptoms have passed so that’s a big improvement.

I’ve had 3 boosters but I never had symptoms like this.

So grateful there are people who tolerate the boosters so well. I have a terrible reaction to all vaccines. I blame it on my crummy lungs but really something in my body just reacts poorly to chemicals, I think. Strong paint smells, too much additives in my food, being around people smoking — it all makes me react. It’s kind of annoying.

Perhaps in third world countries, we get weaker vaccines 😂

I’m betting you just have a stronger system than I do😊

Lol! Perhaps. We are exposed to way too many infections growing up.

I know lots of people who get the ick after vaccines but it hasn’t happened to me in more than a decade (knock on wood).

I’m so happy for you! That must make getting vaccinations so much easier. The person who gave me the shot was like “most people get a sore arm, some folks feel poorly for a few days” and I was like yeah, I always schedule these things when I have a block of 3 days to clear out the yucky feeling. It’s consistent for me.

I rarely even get the sore arm, but a friend gets super sick every time. Now I wonder if she has an undiagnosed allergy!

It’s a fair question. I think some of us are just super sensitive to any virus introduced to our bodies. I get terribly sick when I catch things out in the world so the vaccine reactions have never surprised me.

I recently had mine as well, and just in time it seems, judging by the news –

I’venever before been so thankful for intermittent asthma, depression, morbid obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle (all qualifications for getting a booster).

When I talked with the pharmacists about timing for boosting with the new variant they were quick to say “there’s no guarantee” and I was like I’ve got a lung issue so here’s hoping they don’t decide to let the less-than-perfect citizens fend for themselves🙄. Those poor folks looked stressed.

Right?! I held off for a couple of weeks but last week really mobilized me to contact my dr and get their input. I mean, I need the new variant too but there’s no guarantee it’ll come out or we can access it.
