Nothing made me feel more grown up than when I switched over to chapter books.
I loved reading as a kid, and that’s loved as in “checked twenty books out of the library every week and grinned like a loon while I curled up reading.” We were big fans of the library. Big. HUGE.
My book love started long before chapter books. Nursery rhymes, picture books – all the pretty pages that felt so smooth under my hands while my eyes and ears devoured the stories. It was like a wonderful world that opened up while we were in the pages.
Graduating to chapter books was like joining the best sort of club. It’s nice to look back and remember the simple joy that could be found in a giant stash of library books.
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “chapter.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

really trying to read more, too easy for life to happen and prevent it. Started trying to do the 100 books before I pop it thing.

It has definitely gotten easier to be sidetracked away from getting book time. I’m almost to the point of scheduling half an hour a day dedicated to reading. Maybe if it’s on the calendar I’ll stop skipping it…

The best thing about liking reading and having access to a library was that your parents had no reason not to support your habit.

So very true! I always laughed a bit when I heard are you ever gonna take your nose out of that book…I played soccer, though, so I think I had just enough outdoor energy for them not to worry about the constant reading. 🙂

Great post. I think one of my first chapter books was James and the Giant Peach or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Oh, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was one of my favorites! Thanks, Tiff.

I still remember my first chapter book in the 1960s, Beautiful Joe, about an abused dog rescued by a loving family. Books are wonderful. I must visit the library! Thanks for the nudges. 🙂

You’re welcome! Imagine my surprise last year to realize I’d let my library card expire. I’m looking into e-readers and to access the online library resources I have to get in there and physically apply for a new one. Time for me to get going!

I think we’ll enjoy going to the library once we get there.

Right?? There’s even something about the *smell* — I’d probably buy that if they could bottle it 🤣
