As mama used to say, the lights are on but nobody’s home…
“He started talking about the N word, and why black people shouldn’t use it if they want white people to stop using it.
And here’s the thing. Up until this point, nothing he’s said has shocked me too much. He’s using somewhat coded language to try to dismiss instances of racism – white people pull this ish all the time. But then he says:
‘I mean, don’t get me wrong. I’ve used the N word a few times, too. I’m not proud of it, but everybody does it. And if we want to stop using the word, everybody has to stop using it.’
Um, no, hipster man. Not everyone uses that word.”
Rage Against the Minivan: Millenials, the “N” word, and not-so-casual racism
Yep, some people validate that it is acceptable to use it and then say they’re not racist. Really? I don’t use derogatory language against other racists and then say “But hey, I’m not a racist.” GTHOH. These are the microagressions people of color face.

It’s a mystery to me…my rule for the kids? “Is there any way to say that any NOT have it sound ugly?” ‘Shut up’ used to be an actual Bad Word in our house; now that they’re older their friends say it all the time, but we’ve talked about how there’s really no way to say that phrase without sounding ugly. Some words/phrases just don’t belong in polite society.
