“When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.”

Oh how I wish I were this kind of person. I am the complete opposite. I am a “fixer”. I want to fix everyone’s problems so they don’t have to suffer. I mean well but I have found out the hard way, people have to suffer, be disappointed, get hurt, because in that suffering God moves.

Boy, do I hear you…this is something I’ve been working toward and it is HARD. It’s a skill I’m trying to model for my kids, though, because I’ve never been at peace while fighting against the uncomfortable feelings.
