“My story isn’t the only story, nor is it the central story of what happened on Jan 6th. It is just one story of many of those whose lives were endangered at the Capitol by the lies, threats, and violence fanned by the cowardice of people who chose personal gain above democracy.”
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
AOC speaks for about an hour and a half here and it’s worth every minute of your time. Each day brings new evidence from the attack to light and as we close in on the Senate’s impeachment trial it’s important to remember what really happened. It’s only been four weeks but Republican members are already screeching UNITY and BIPARTISANSHIP all the while refusing to hold Marjorie Taylor Greene accountable and backpedaling on calling out treason and sedition in every level of government.
No more gaslighting. No more don’t do as I do, do as I say.
We’re done.

“screeching UNITY and BIPARTISANSHIP”
Couldn’t have said it better. So true, so insincere, so sad.

I do not understand how Republicans cannot see what their party has become. How they can continue to support the actions of the party members baffles me. When did integrity become unimportant in our government?

It really is a quagmire of self-destruction. The fact that they’re on hour four of debate about what to do with Liz Cheney for her role in upholding the constitution but aren’t signaling any need to hold Marjorie Tayor Greene responsible for her lunacy tells me everything I need to know about what that party has sworn allegiance to.

Comes a time to stand up. For too long people have got away with destroying life’s and communities.

I’m done with the gaslighting too. I lost a friend over the many months of hateful and seditious rhetoric, which she believed in. Words have meaning, weight and impact on others. Although this country is founded on freedom of speech, there has to be a point where we separate democratic speech from treasonous speech and hold people accountable.

This is such a given, I’m dumbfounded that anyone would argue with the logic. We hold people accountable for far less than sedition. If they let this slide there’ll be no stopping it next time.

Laura, I just wrote this on Sally’s similar post. It is an important topic.
AOC speaks to truths we don’t often talk about, regardless of her politics. Donald Trump’s incitement of the January 6 insurrection had a long fuse, where he had his fingerprints all over it. But, his efforts were aided and abetted by both silent Republican legislators and active ones that supported his BS claims which he planned and staged for months. Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Louie Gohmert et al played active roles in promoting sedition.
AOC was in danger because these domestic terrorists had names they were looking for and Pelosi, AOC and Sanders have been used in GOP commercials around the country as an evil triumvirate. Words matter. AOC is accurate to be critical of these so-called elected leaders. Keith

It really does go so far beyond politics. When there’s a coordinated effort to demonize individuals, to set them up as The Head of the body you point your weapons at, then you’re culpable when the masses laser focus on them. Her account is terrifying and traumatizing and I’m so grateful she shared it with us.

Laura, as an independent and former Republican, who left long before Trumpism, the Republican party put these three faces up on almost any Congressional or Senate candidate ad saying these three people are evil. They are not evil, they just hold different views. It revealed to me a party that has a dearth of ideas that had to result to name calling of the worst kind. The now Trump party did not vote on a platform at their convention in Charlotte, so the platform is whatever Donald Trump thinks it should be . From where I sit, the former Republican party could not be in worse hands than the most corrupt and deceitful president in my lifetime, who is also guilty of sedition. Keith

When we graduated college my husband was a Republican. Or rather he believed in Republican tenets of smaller government etc etc. It’s hard to think of that party in reference to principles like that, they’ve so thoroughly dismantled it to erect a Trump shrine.

Laura, Ronald Reagan could not get elected as the nominee with this crowd. Keith
