- Write a post in exactly 14 lines.
- Write a story starting with the line “The balloons floated away along with all my hopes and dreams.”
- Tell us about the phase you’re going through currently.
- What is the strangest way you met one of your friends?
- Write a top-ten article listing your favorite songs or albums with short explanations of why each one won a spot on your list.
Mid-October and people are talking:
leaves changing, jeans weather, and Christmas lists galore.
But here I sit in North Carolina,
days in the upper 70s, barely a leaf change in sight,
and zero ability to even imagine weather that requires sweatshirts.
Octobers here are warm, sometimes a little humid,
and not at all conducive to Christmas beginnings.
I imagine that’s why every year we tiptoe right up to Thanksgiving
with a mad shift afterward toward a yuletide attitude.
I know I complain about bitterly cold weather
but I have boots in my closet that beg to be worn
more than three months out of the year.
Alas, a warm region is where we have settled,
a warm October (and possibly November) is part of its charm. So be it.

We don’t get distinct seasons anymore, they just kinda merge into each other.

Interesting. So they used to be distinct? Is it an environment/climate change thing?

I envy your weather! 😃 October started out well (in the 70s), but now we’re getting the occasional frost warning at night. And November usually sucks – cold and damp. 😝 It only gets worse from there… 🥶
Greetings from suburban Toronto! 👋🍁 I followed your link from John’s “Writer’s Workshop”.

Hi Debbie! So nice to meet another blogger and though it sounds weird I like to hear what weather people around the world are facing day to day.
Our November is cooler but we still get oddly warm days. Our chance to get cold weather starts in December but I live in what we call the ice belt — people slightly north of us get snow but we’ll typically get ice instead. It’s a bummer😂
Thanks for dropping by. I look forward to checking out your blog!

Ice is definitely a bummer! 😕 I’m surprised that’s a problem in North Carolina. The worst months for us are January and February. That’s when the winter blues settle in for a long spell. 🥶
Thank you for visiting The Doglady’s Den! 🌹 Wishing you a lovely weekend. 🌞

I visited your lovely state in August. The weather was perfect in Oak Island. 🏝️ Being from south Texas, I’ve never experienced fall weather. If only, … c’mon October 🤣

I was blinking in confusion at “perfect weather” in August…then I got to you being from south Texas part. Because only someone from a seriously southern climate wouldn’t run screaming from our temps in the mid 90s with 80% humidity.😂🤣

🤣yep it’s all relative

I can identify. We are still in the 90s so Fall is just a word right now.

It always feels like the seasons are a liar — surely nobody should be able to wear shorts in October!!

Flip flops in December, too.

Right?! I remember that one Christmas day where the kids played outside on their new skate ramp. We were all standing around in short sleeves enjoying the sun…

It’s the same here. Not very hot but still summer

It just lasts and lasts and every year I fall into the same “well, it’s October, it’ll start cooling down” trap.🤣

Yes that is true. Wishful thinking. 🤔
