“Kids don’t stay with you if you do it right. It’s the one job where, the better you are, the more surely you won’t be needed in the long run.”
– Barbara Kingsolver
Well, isn’t that the truth.
Bit by bit, I see these kids spread their wings and fly a little higher on their own. Sometimes they come back for a little encouragement but then they’re running again, off to the next adventure. Their eyes are on the horizon, confident that BrightSide and I are behind them no matter what.
Which is exactly as it should be.

P.S. Do you choose your own quote or is one provided on the #WCW webpage?

I love this quote, too, and it was the perfect one for today (T-man’s 5th grade graduation). It’s what I remind myself of when I feel a little squirrelly about the kids branching out into something new.
You choose your quote, anything you’d like to put out there that day, and link back so we can see what everybody chose. I like to pair pictures with mine but that’s not part of the #wcw. Have fun with it!

I’ve never heard that quote before and I love it! When our children are entrusted to us, our job is to raise them to leave to start their own lives.
This is a very neat idea for a linkup and writing prompt. I’m going to check it out. Thanks for sharing!
