A reminder that everybody falls. Sometimes falling is the point.
” “Oh, I’ve never fallen off…”
She thinks she’s bragging, but the little girl, or teen, or grown-ass woman (or perhaps man) who utters those words in the horseback riding world has failed to read the room. We are not impressed. In fact, the polite among us are trying not to laugh in her face…
We know something she doesn’t. We know there are only two types of horseback riders: Those who have fallen off, and those who will.”
That’s is very true. Plus, no matter how good you get, it can still happen again. 🙂 Backed up by a competition equestrian with way over thirty years experience. 🙂

🙂 Even with this knowledge firmly in hand I find I still get anxious when I mess up. Old habits are hard to break, but I’m working on it. It’s one of the reasons I believe working with students is so important — they’re so afraid of being wrong that they’re almost timid. Gotta put yourself out there if you want to fly!

I always told my students not to fear falling, it will happen. Once it happens they often realize it’s not the end of the world, and oddly enough they can relax a bit about it. 🙂
