We lost our Mia in July.

Breathe in, breathe out, reset.

Mia died unexpectedly while we were out of town. It turns out undiagnosed heart disease is a pretty common thing among cats. Testing for it isn’t typically done so suddenly losing a cat around five or six years of age isn’t unusual. Doesn’t make it suck any less.

Here are some things you should know about Mia:

She was velvety soft, like a bunny who’d been freshly bathed and fluffed.

She’d mastered the art of the cat loaf, delicately tucking her paws beneath her as she watched the world go by.

Mia was our hunter, stalking and killing bugs like it was her life’s mission.

She loved camping out on the first two levels of the bookshelves. Watching Seven poke around up there in pursuit was endlessly entertaining.

She loved us all in different ways but without a doubt T was her human. Mia was in heaven when he sprawled across his bed as she camped out around him.

We miss her terribly. Mia and Phoebe had a special bond, though, and it helps knowing they’re together on the other side.
