“You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist.”
– Golda Meir
These are such angry times. It feels like everyone’s dug in, pointing fingers and harboring hate. She’s a liar, he’s a bigot…these people are drug dealers and rapists, those are terrorists…red faces, clenched fists, threats of violence, us versus them.
But there’s one major problem – the days are long gone when we can exist in a bubble. Human innovation has made that impossible. International travel, the internet, commerce, global investments, security issues…we’re all linked, from the greatest superpower to the smallest third world country, on a planet that depends on our cooperation.
I’m not a peace sign wielding flower child; I understand there’s a time for clenched fists. But if that defensive posture is our default state then we’ll never have a real chance at peace.

This is good thinking. Some people still continue to think they can clench their fists and live apart. They have not understood how the world has changed.

Thank you. I meet more and more people who are open to differences…I hope we keep heading in that direction!
