The United States Department of Agriculture canceled November’s SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, denying funds to nearly 42 million U.S. residents who receive federal food assistance. They slapped a big message on their website talking cash shit about Senate Democrats, blaming them for the government shutdown and by extension the lack of SNAP funding. There’s a contingency fund designed to cover food assistance benefits in the event of a government shutdown but the Trump administration is refusing to use that money.

In addition, the supplemental program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) helps more than 6 million low-income mothers, young children, and expectant parents. It received emergency funds in October but that was only enough to keep them afloat for a couple of extra weeks. States say they may run out of WIC money as early as November 8.

Community is what we have while we wait for the government to get it together. Please look out for your neighbors. Gather and share resources with people who need them and, if you’re able, please donate to your local food shelters.
