And the first thing that popped into my head is the movie The Usual Suspects. Have you seen it? It came out in 1995 (though I have no idea what year I saw it) and was the first movie I remember having a truly compelling gotcha moment. I never saw the ending coming and we talked about it forever afterward. I’ve watched it a couple of times since and see bits and pieces of clues tucked into the film, things I didn’t even notice the first time. It’s a fun ride.
I used to be able to say I usually sleep in on Saturday but things have shifted. At first it was because the weekend was when BrightSide could sleep in and I’m home during the week so I usually get up after he’s up for work — that sentence structure got away from me. Let’s try again.
I used to be able to say I usually sleep in on the weekend but things have shifted. My eyes pop open by 7:15am (ugh) and I open the door to Seven parked in the hall, crying plaintively as though he might starve from neglect. Knowing he’s out there every morning begging for the food has a lot to do with my inability to just roll over and go back to sleep…some photos for the cat tax:
The amount of sleep I get doesn’t even seem to matter. I fell asleep at 2:30am last night (it’s a long story). That was unusual, even for me, and I think we can all agree five hours of sleep is unacceptable. Or it is for me, a human who used to need a solid eight to nine hours in order to function. Over the last six months or so I’ve shifted to a seven hour schedule which isn’t bad physically, but psychologically? Let’s just say I’m usually not the sparkliest penny in the bowl at the seven o’clock hour.
Guess it’s a good thing most people don’t have to deal with me then. BrightSide deserves all your kind thoughts for taking this hit for the world at large.
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “usual.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Sleep seems to get weirder with age. I tend to be a night owl and need to work on that. I’ll try to catch The Usual Suspects next time it comes around. Great cat photos!

Oh my – talking about sleeping habits, I’m finding mine changing and sometimes I think I could sleep all the time if I stayed in bed. I’m in bed somewhere between 10 and 12, get up somewhere between 7:30 (rarely) and 10 – and there’s often a nap somewhere during the day. I’d like to be in bed by 11 and up at 8 or so, which should be more than enough time, but there are those far-too-frequent trips to the bathroom overnight that mess everything up.

The overnight bathroom trips — UGH. Why can my husband blissfully sleep for 7+ hours and I pop out of bed three times to pee? What’s THAT about?!!

Sleep in until 7:15? What a luxury. Of course, if you go to bed at 11:00, it’s not slothful.

I’m starting to see that I may be getting a decent amount of sleep given the comments…👀

It is all in how you feel.

I try to make up at least 7 hours of sleep. But it’s in 2-3 installments.

I have started waking up more often too, but on my good nights I can go back to sleep fairly quickly. I really don’t love being awake a whole hour in the middle of the night.

It is hard to be awake at night. Have you tried any sleep aid?

I do take something to help me sleep at night so the times when I’m awake in the wee hours are pretty rare. I think my brain has to truly be working in overdrive to make it happen. The doctors all say I need to decrease my stress….🤣

Lol! Though it’s not a bad idea. Try sleep yoga.

oh, those cats! they act as if they will die! so dramatic and they drag us with them. ps. I loved the usual suspects and promoted it back in my advertising days, loved the ending. and ruined it for a colleague who I was talking about how great the ending was, and it turns out she had not gone to the screening with me, so I destroyed the entire film for her and she still brings it up.

So *very* dramatic. It’s a miracle they haven’t wasted away…😂

Your cute kitties can get comfortable for sleep in any position, for sure. Thanks for the photos 🙂

Seven is a love bug when he’s finally sleepy.

ooh 7 something o’clock ( and cat) sounds so good. It’s been years since I slept so late. We get up at about 3:45 a.m. But then we go to bed early too. Me, about 9:30 🙂

3:45?? THREE FORTY FIVE?! Oh.My.Word.
That’s it. My brain broke with that sentence. 🤣

Our cats are gone, but when I visit my brother, his cat always tries to convince me that 3:00 am is his usual feeding time. It doesn’t work, but he keeps trying.
I can’t recall the last time I was still up at 2:30 or the last time I slept until 7:15 (my usual time is 5:45).

5:45 is a horrifying time. I’ve seen that on a couple of travel days and it’s not pretty for me (or for those around me, if I’m honest). Gotta admire your brother’s cat for persistence.
